A Florida man bet his friends that he could swim across the canal behind his house. If he made it, his friends owed him $50. If he didn’t make it, he knew he would never have to pay the $50. It’s a win-win situation.

Taxing alcoholic drinks that are popular with teens does not curb their drinking – so a study says.
Perhaps that’s because teens aren’t buying their own alcohol to begin with. It appears that teens with parents who buy them alcohol are willing to pay a small tax for their childrens’ refreshment.

Jimi Heselden, the millionaire who bought the Segway (don’t call it a scooter) company. Died this week after going off a cliff while riding a Segway. These are the same miracle devices that the designer touted were impossible to crash.
Five minutes of Google searches would lead us to believe that Heselden holds the record for first Segway death. He purchased the company earlier this year. He also owned several jet aircraft which he few often.

David Jonathan Winkelman was arrested for something on September 27. It doesn’t really matter what he was arrested for, it’s his mugshot that makes his arrest newsworthy.
UPDATE: A commenter on The Smoking Gun where the story originates adds some wonderful details about this story and the telling of it:
“The story here on the Smoking Gun is PACKED with factual errors. I know because I was there. There was NEVER a promise of money. There was NEVER a “wacky radio stunt.” Representatives from the station went to the tatto parlor and BEGGED these two dopes not to do it and it was made very clear to them they would recieve nothing. What sucks is The Smoking Gun rehashes this old story with all of these errors and a ton of other media outlets just copy and paste it and present it as “news’. Let me assure you, the REAL story is ten times more hillarious/tragic than this. At one point he claimed the incident was causing him to go into frequent cardiac arrest which was a problem because doctors had given him a monkey heart. I can’t do the entire story here justice, but please do some fact checking before you give these to dopes an additional 15 minutes.”
Thanks for the update Smoking Gun commenter. Please click on the link for the story that started it all.
