Become a podcaster on the cheap: Blue Microphone Yeti Review

Push the little triangle to make it play...

  Yeti Logo

The Yeti by Blue Microphone is big, heavy and should be a staple for any one who needs a portable recording studio. Listen to the podcast and peruse the gallery for more information.

We recorded the podcast on the Yeti using Garage Band with no effects filters. What you hear is what you get. We edited the podcast in Audacity.

One correction to the podcast. We incorrectly said that the Yeti was over a foot tall. In reality it is exactly a foot tall. It also weighs over 3 lbs with the base. (mic 1.2 lbs, base 2.2 lbs).

If you are looking for a backup portable studio or you need a good beginner microphone for your podcast studio, we don’t think you can do any better than the Yeti for $150 or less. In fact, you can get it for well under $150 by following the Amazon link at the top of the article.

How about a new podcast episode

Push the little triangle to make it play...

Over the past few months, we have not been able to record the show we do with Rick Castellini of HelpMeRick.com. Finally, we were able to get it done this month.

We discuss Google Buzz, Windows Mobile 7, wireless Internet, and much more.

Here’s the show.

talkingDigital podcast episode 003 – Newspaper Rant

tdpodcastlogo

Push the little triangle to make it play...

This podcast is a rant. The day I recorded this podcast I had sat in on a roundtable discussion with a group of journalism (newspaper) professionals. After listening to them discuss the struggles of the newspaper industry and advertising, I decided to ask their opinions on social media.

As soon as they began talking I wished that I had a tape recorder running. It was very surprising to discover that social media is not a part of new media – according to the participants who can’t figure out how to get their readership back.

I really messed up the episode number this week. As you will hear, I did the podcast shortly before 2am and I was a little nutty. The episode should be interesting. Few things are better than an rant recorded at 2am.

talkingDigital Podcast Episode 001

Push the little triangle to make it play...

This is it! This is the very first actual episode of the talkingDigital podcast.

Yes, we did do another episode, but that was an episode 000 – essentially, it was just a pilot. This episode actually features content and even a little information.

In this episode we discuss:

Twitter spam followers - Folks who follow you on twitter, but they never do anything but send out spam such as marketing info, pitch diet plans or tweet about how you can get more followers with their program.

Windows 7 house party silliness - It is a mystery to everyone whether Microsoft knows how cheesy/campy/horrible their Windows 7 party videos and downloads are. But is the strategy working?

Smart phone update – Palm Pre received a major software update this week, Motorola recently announced two new Android phones (Cliq will release Oct 19 and another phone that is yet to be named or shown) and iPhone is as strong as ever.

Forum moderator rant – Some moderators take their position too seriously and prevent dialog (the purpose of a forum) from happening.

Picasa 3.5 – Face recognition, powerful tools and ease of use. So long iPhoto.

Official talkingDigital Podcast – episode 000

Push the little triangle to make it play...

tdpodcastlogoThat’s right, we have finally put together our very first episode of the talkingDigital podcast. It has taken years to get to this point, but we are very picky and wanted to do it right.

The show needs a lot of polish that comes naturally as podcasts grow, but we hope to see episode 100 and even 1000 someday.

This premier episode of the talkingDigital podcast is a simple intro to Adam Cochran and to what talkingDigital is all about. We hope to have at least one new episode per month, but we also don’t want to set ourselves up for a disappointing podfade (when podcasters get tired and stop doing the show as often).

Please tell others about the podcast. We will probably do three to five episodes before listing on iTunes and other podcast indexes. In the meantime, subscribe via the RSS and enjoy each new episode.
